A Yiddish World Remembered
Join us for a cozy January afternoon, as we watch the video A Yiddish World Remembered. It is the story of the vanished world of Jewish Eastern Europe, and how life existed before World War II. Through films, photographs, traditional cantorial and Klezmer music, and personal recollections, once vibrant cities and small towns (shtetls) come alive again. The few remaining eyewitnesses share their stories about life in their communities, where rabbis settled disputes, yentas gossiped, and humor prevailed. The film looks at the language of Yiddish, the style of dress, and the traditional foods of this very vibrant cultural, religious, and political life of the time.
